Johnston was a significant influence in my life and that of my brothers John and Alastair, and latterly my sister Janice as we were growing up. He was a unique character who was different to most people we knows, he had a sharp wit, strong intellect as evidenced through his knowledge when we would play Trivial Pursuit, he always victored and boy he could gloat 😊 I have fond memories of racing down our lane with him, of a day when he was helping us with the fencing, how we used to tickle his feet as they poked out at the bottom of the bed, how he would call us “my little simmentowels” (meaning the breed of cattle - Simmentals. Growing up Johnston was very much part of our family, he was our eccentric big cousin from Essex, I’m only sorry that I didn’t have a closer relationship with him in more recent years, the busyness of life sometimes just blinds us to what really matters. Johnston didn’t have an easy start in life, to lose both parents at such an early age was a crushing blow and it no doubt impacted significantly on his pathway in life. I am glad this page has been set up, Johnston deserves this and so much more. To Alex (Miller) and those who really cared for him down the years, I want to acknowledge. God Bless, Kenny Donaldson (Son of John and Muriel of East Cloghoge, Crossmaglen)
